ARTHUS BERTRAND

goud

Modernist cross-shaped brooch, made in gilded bronze by the house of Arthus-Bertrand, based on a model attributed to Paule Ingrand, a figure in 20th-century French design and decorative arts. Dating from the 1960s, this piece features full volumes and softened lines, in the post-war modernist style.

Founded in 1803, the house of Arthus-Bertrand is historically recognized as the official supplier of decorations, orders, and insignia for the French state, notably for the Legion of Honour. Alongside this institutional production, it developed a remarkable line of designer jewelry in the 20th century, appreciated by collectors.

Paule Ingrand (1910-1997), an artist who graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, first collaborated with Max Ingrand before pursuing an independent career, particularly in Belgium. A graphic designer, painter, and jewelry creator, she designed brooches and pendants with a powerful formal language, mixing Art Deco heritage and modernism, often produced by major Parisian houses like Arthus-Bertrand.

The back of the brooch is signed “Arthus-Bertrand Paris”. A beautiful graphic and symbolic piece.
